In February 2019, Transnet Engineering (TE) appointed USK to undertake a feasibility study for the provision of environmental engineering solutions for remediation of buried asbestos contaminated sites at the Koedoespoort (KDS) Centre in Pretoria. The aim of the feasibility study is to identify, evaluate remediation solutions for the KDS center that are aligned and are in compliance to the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEMWA), 59 of 2008, the Framework for the Management of Contaminated Land compiled in support of Part 8 of the Waste Act; and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993 and any other Asbestos and related Regulations. Importantly the feasibility study is aimed at developing a remediation action plan and engineering designs that has been vetted through a multi-criteria analysis and a stakeholder/regulatory consultation process.
